DHI's know-how within the field of municipal and industrial wastewater treatment includes biological and physical/chemical treatment systems. Activated sludge and fixed film process technology for the biological removal of organics and nutrients has been studied and tested to optimize design and process control strategies as well as to develop procedures for mathematical simulation, troubleshooting, etc.
The field of municipal wastewater treatment in Denmark is dominated by the fact that all municipalities during the 1990's constructed and upgraded treatment facilities to meet strict standards, including nutrient removal as well as the removal of organics. Through the involvement in this effort DHI has the necessary in-house knowledge required to undertake all the steps from plant design to optimization of the daily operation of treatment facilities.
Industrial wastewater treatment is a multi-disciplinary field in which the focus of DHI's strategy has been on developing a highly qualified understanding of the interaction between the industrial production processes, wastewater composition and dynamics, effluent requirements, and the selection of the best suited/best available treatment technology (BAT's).
In dealing with industrial wastewater treatment each case is considered as a unique integrated interaction between production and end-of-pipe-treatment. Thus evaluation of the possibilities for recycling and reuse of water, raw materials, and energy is a natural part of DHI's services.
User-configurable software systems for real-time and off-line monitoring and decision support tools are available in order to give the user an efficient tool to turn excessive amounts of data into useful information.
