Food contact materials

Food contact materials – how to ensure they are suitable for food

Food contact materials are not only packaging but also include processing equipment, kitchen tools, table ware, cutlery, etc. The legislation covers all materials, not only plastic, although plastic is the material with the most specific regulation.

It can be quite tricky to grasp the legislation on food contact materials. The aim of this course is to provide you with a general view of the regulation plus directions on how to handle the legal requirement for documentation of safety.

A harmonization of the rules in the EU is under development, but what about the rest of the world? Do the EU rules agree with the food contact legislation in the United States, and how do you comply with both legislations? We look at cases and solve problems in groups under guidance.

You are welcome to inform the course manager of your specific day-to-day challenges in advance and we will try to cover your specific area of interest during the course.
