High efficiency and operational stability at the lowest possible investment and operational costs are always the top priority when industries have to select a technology for a specific purpose. This is regardless of whether the industry develops or purchases new equipment.

DHI assists technology suppliers to identify the possibilities of process improvements and adaptations in relation to specific and new applications through scientifically designed investigations. In our own process laboratory DHI performs the functional characterisation of wastewater, process water and industrial pulps.

Every project within this field is unique. However, when suppliers are developing technology typical activities will be:

• Brainstorming and idea generation with regard to technology and market development
• Market investigations and project idenfitication

When industries are selecting technologies, the typical activities will be:

• Test and documentation of technology in bench-scale experiments in DHI's own process laboratory, from which data are gathered to perform pre-feasibility studies of different treatment scenarios
• DHI designs and performs pilot-scale experiments with the most promising solutions
• DHI draws up a technical, economical and environmental assessment of the treatment scenarios based on experiments and data to be used as a decision basis for the industry.

DHI also makes process configurations, outline designs and tender documents of full-scale treatment plants.
